The investigations will continue and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Although it is too early to determine what caused the raft to flip on the Thunder River Rapids ride, it is clear that something went terribly wrong which ultimately caused the death of four people. If it is determined that there is something that Dreamworld could have done to have prevented this tragedy from unfolding, then the families of the victims will be entitled to make claims for compensation for causing the death of their family members.
Dreamworld owes each and every guest that enters the park a duty of care to protect them from foreseeable risk of injury. If it is proven that Dreamworld breached that duty, the families of the deceased victims may be able to claim for compensation for dependency, any psychological injuries sustained plus recover the costs of the funeral expenses. Anyone who witnessed the tragic event and who suffered a psychological injury as a consequence may also be entitled to compensation for their injuries.
The owner of Dreamworld, Ardent Leisure, will no doubt have a policy of insurance to cover the costs of any compensation claims brought against them.
The possibility of a claim for compensation will be of little comfort to those who are mourning the loss of a family member. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this recent tragedy.
